Sorry this has take a little while, but here is Part 3!
Part Three:
I looked up and was staring into David’s eyes. He was smiling at me
and telling me that everything would be ok. I just stared at him and he
asked me if I wanted to go through with this. He told me to blink once
for no and twice for yes. I kept staring at him and then blinked twice.
He called Dr. Jim into the room and said that I had agreed to go
through with whatever he saw fit. He smiled at me and said that he was
very pleased with my decision. Next thing I knew was that he was in the
process of blindfolding me. He told me that what he was about to do
would not be the most pleasant experience for me so he thought I would
appreciate being blindfolded. After it was snug and I could not see, I
felt some hands on my legs. I could hear the doctor’s voice, and he was
talking to Mitch. He was saying something about my legs being in good
shape for the experiment. I then felt him moving my right ankle around
in his hands. He told me to relax and that the pain I was about to
experience would subside quickly. (I didn’t believe him, but there was
nothing I could do.) I felt him start twisting my ankle in his big strong
hands. He was talking to Mitch the whole time about stupid things, like
the weather and just general non-important things, meanwhile he is still
twisting my ankle. I could feel the tears forming in my eyes and I
wanted to cry, but with the ventilator in my mouth there wasn’t much I
could do. As I felt that my ankle could take no more twisting I felt a
second pair of hands on my leg and then a jolt of pain from my ankle as
the doctor snapped my ankle. I was trying desperately to pull off of the
bed, but I wasn’t going anywhere. To my surprise I feel the same thing
happening on my left leg. Meanwhile, I’m trying to breathe harder and
harder but cant because of the ventilator. I feel the doctor twisting my
ankle again and he is really doing this one fast. I feel the ankle start to
go and BAM! The ankle snaps. I feel my blindfold being removed, and
it takes a minute for my eyes to adjust back to the bright lights. Dr. Jim
looks at me and asks me if I am ready for the tube to come out. I blink
twice, and he tells me to cough as he pulls it out. I cough, and he pulls it
out. I start to cry and David comes over and holds me. Dr. Jim tells me
that the breaks appear to be a success. I keep crying and David tells me
everything is ok. I look down at my ankles and they are swelling up and
are pointing in the wrong direction. I feel sick, I tell David. Dr. Jim
tells me to relax or he will have to put the tube back down my throat
and control my breathing. Mitch walks up and tells me to relax as he
sticks a needle in my arm and everything goes black again……………
